Teach For America: TFA has hosted their summer training at Chavez for four years and will continue this summer


Urban Teacher Education Program
: Alternative teaching certification program from the Urban Education Institute at the University of Chicago

: After school programming.

Carson Scholarships
: One student from grades 3-8 can be nominated for a $1,000 scholarship to be applied to wherever they go to college.

Personalized Learning:


The Chicago Public Education Fund
: provided financial and consulting advice through Summer Design Institute, Principal Advisory Council, and principal fellows program


Summit Base Camp
: Three teachers trained on Summit School’s personalized learning platform and will be implementing this school year.

CAPS: UNION Impact (Soccer, etc.), Chicago Jazz Philharmonic (violin and guitar), May I Have This Dance (ballroom dance), First Tee (golfing), knitting, basketball, hockey, yoga, fitness fun, XC, crafts, etc.

Non-cognitive Skills:


SPARK
: 20 – 30 7th and 8th grade students participate in one-on-one internships once per week (Thursdays from 2:30 - 5:00) and take classes with counselor addressing non-cognitive skills.

Success Bound
: 5th – 8th grade students participate in the Success Bound curriculum.


Catholic Charities Counseling program
: Social workers provide additional counseling to identified students.

Tutoring Partners:


Rashied Davis Charities / Saturday Place
: tutoring for 28 third and fourth grade students on Saturdays. Instructors are in constant communication with Chavez teachers, sharing assessment results and anecdotals.


WITS (Working In The Schools)
: 4th and 5th grade students receive individual tutoring in reading by prestigious professional business people in the Chicago business district (Jones Lang LaSalle). Our teachers communicate with those employees once a week.


The Academy Group
: 15 students in 3rd and 4th grade participate in Academic programming throughout summer and school year. Support will be provided to these students through high school and college

Community Relations:


Peace and Education Coalition of the Back of the Yards
: Monthly meetings with 8 neighborhood principals, community leaders, and business leaders to discuss and solve community issues

21st Century Community Learning Center: Chavez has been a community learning center for 12 years. We are a hub for the community, providing classes in a range of subjects throughout the school year and summer.


Communities in Schools of Chicago: This agency partners Chavez with different organizations that provide a wide variety of presentations and other services. This year, they will also partner to provide an extra counselor for 35 hours per week.

Financial and Career Readiness:


Hyatt Hotels
: Chavez is the sole adopted school of Hyatt Hotels Corporation in Chicago. They have contributed financially to Chavez, allowing us to purchase furniture and computers. They also run leadership classes with their executives for our 7th and 8th grade students. This has included interviewing, resume writing, and hotel design. They also provide students with backpacks filled with supplies at the beginning of each school year. Students see real world application of in school learning.

Health:


Greater Chicago Food Depository
: This partner provides 20 to 30 pounds of fresh produce weekly to families of Chavez students through a family run food pantry called “The Healthy Kids Market”


Common Threads:
Students participate in nutrition classes during the school day. After school students and parents participate in cooking classes with a chef.


The Kitchen Community
: Chavez has a school garden. Students and teachers plant and harvest throughout the year. Lesson plans connect with science content.



Purple Asparagus
: Educates first grade students and families about healthy eating through their “delicious nutritious adventures” hands-on programming.

Rape Victims Advocate (Resiliency), Imagination Theater, and Chicago Women’s Health Center: provide students with sexual education classes as well as sexual abuse prevention with counselors
